A Favorite Historical Film (Lawrence of Arabia)

Lawrence of Arabia, which won seven Oscars, including best picture and director in 1963. The film is based on the Seven Pillars of Wisdom by T. E. Lawrence in which he described his life experiences in the Ottoman Empire's provinces of Hejaz and Greater Syria during World War I. The film is opened in 1935 when Lawrence is killed in an accident, then moves backward to the World War I, Germany's ally Turkey rules the Arabian Peninsula, Prince Faisal (played by Alec Guinness) revolted against the Turks for the independence of Arabia when Lawrence (played by Peter O'Toole) was sent to assess the prospect by British Army. Faisal adopted Lawrence's strategy, surprise attacked and quickly captured Aqaba. Lawrence was strategic and tried his best to get close to  Arabian lifestyle. Because of his many victories, he was called the Lawrence of Arabia. After the battle of Damascus, the British treacherously rejected the Arabs' request for independence. Lawrence was trapped in complicated political conflictions, he had to choose to retire. One of the most impressive scenes is Lawrence riding a camel in the desert. Combine Lawrence's retirement and the accident at the beginning of the film, what a contrast between his splendid victories and his frustration!
