πππTalk to me Tarawa
Tarawa is the Capital island of Kiribati, almost 50% of the population lived on Tarawa. Since it is a small island, the citizens almost know each other. So it is common to see people talking or greet each other when they meet in public places or anywhere. Although most of them tend to be shy when they are in the presence of foreigners.
But one of their typical character is they smile to foreigners or strangers, this is another way of saying their greetings and by that you can determined that they can get along well or fall in a good conversation with you (strangers) if you are courageous enough to approach them or start off the conversation first.
However, some foreigners complained that when they tried to approach the local people they likely to avoid them or not even responded back. Do not think that they are not welcoming or they hate foreigners, it is good to bear in mind that not all people speak or know English well, some of them are illiterated especially older generation and people who grew up in rural areas whom they do not receive formal education.
So for me, I prefer to name this program as SMILE TO ME TARAWA rather than Talk to me Tarawa.
You smile a lot. Smile is one of your typical characters. Thank you my friend.
