English in Japan

 Shutaro

In my opinion, the Japanese system of teaching English is the worst in Asian. This is because most Japanese teachers consider only grammar and vocabulary, so students do not practice listening and speaking. Especially, speaking is so terrible that most Japanese cannot guide someone who get lost even though they have studied English for 6 years (my sister is one of them). Unfortunately, most students are not good at reading and grammar though teachers teach only grammar and vocabulary.
Do you know why Japanese are not good at English? I think it is one of the reasons that Japan is so far from English countries. Japan is situated at east of the world. It takes 8 hours from Australia that is closest English country to Japan by airplane. Furthermore, the tickets of airplane is more expensive than other countries. Therefore, it is not easy for foreign people to visit Japan. As a result, just a few foreign people come to Japan, so Japanese do not need to speak English unless they live in Tokyo or Osaka where a lot of immigrant live.
To sum up, most Japanese cannot speak English so much because teachers consider only grammar and vocabulary and there are few opportunities to speak English. However some people want to improve their English and go abroad to study English like me. I hope more people study English hard.
