English
is a kind of worldwide-used language which plays a critical role in the
interactions among people from various countries. China has witnessed great
developments in the past decades and labeled as international. Going aboard has
become a trend among Chinese, thus, the enthusiasm for learning English in
China has reached a historical high point.
English
is one of the third main courses which is compulsory for students from primary
school to college. English is also taught in kindergarten in urban area.
Most of
Chinese students study English quite a lot. Even though they spend plenty of time in
studying English, what they have learn is unfortunately quite limited. Educated Chinese
can read and understand materials typed in English. Reading English newspapers
won't stump them. In addition, they are self-sufficient in writing English documents
in most time, many Chinese researchers can finish and publish their English thesis
by themselves. By contrast, people tend to be only focus on reading and writing
when they touch English, thus, the major of them become the typical English learners
who can deal with English materials easily but lacking enough ability to
communicate in English well.
I totally agree with you about the unbalanced skills and abilities of reading, writing and speaking English of Chinese students...
ReplyDeleteI think both China and Vietnam should focus more on conversation training in English education.
