Do Zoos Violate Animals' Rights? - Luke

I am really conflicted about zoos. In one hand, I know it's a bit cruel to keep animals locked up, however, I myself really enjoy visiting zoos at the same time. Wherever I travel, I will visit zoo or museum to get a quick "summary" or "feels" of the place I am visiting. But would people's enjoyment be enough to justify having zoos around? I just don't know.

#animalissues - Mikoto -

Zoo nowadays serve no useful purpose and should be banned

I half agree and half disagree this idea. When I was a child, I used to go to the zoo and enjoy seeing animals, so I cannot say "zoo should be banned". However, I know some zoos are under bad condition. For example, animals cannot eat much food and their houses are not good. These zoos should be banned. On the other hand, there are wonderful zoo. People in the zoo take care animals lovely to enjoy living for animals. These zoos should not be banned. Zoo is the only place where we can see animals, so we should keep protecting them.

Are Zoos still Useful? - Ami

Today I’m going to talk about zoo. Have you ever been to a zoo? Do you like it? If you’re the people who have been there before, you know what it is. There are many kinds of animals taken care of by zookeepers. I like visiting zoo, and it’s interesting for me to see unique animals I can’t usually encounter. For example, there are polar bears, lions, penguins and gorillas in Japan.

However, some animal activists nowadays say that zoo is no longer useful and should be banned. I mostly agree with this opinion. Because I feel sad when I see lions, giraffes, elephants and other animals, surrounded by exposed concrete walls. Climates in zoo can be completely different for those animals. For example, for polar bears, hot and stuffy Japanese summer weather would be their stressor. Also, there is no freedom for animals. Lions are locked in a small area of “lions’ section” instead of running savannahs  as far as they want. Sometimes there are some individuals which is born in a zoo. They are raised up by human and never ever live in the place they are meant to be. That’s really heartbreaking and a lack of respect animals’ lives.

Then, why are there still many zoos in the world? Well the biggest and most common reason for the existence is educational purposes. People can learn how other animals habit and the importance of living together with them in harmony. And also, for scientists, zoo is important to study and research about ecology. And then they use their knowledge to maintain endangered species’ existence. In fact, some kinds are protected from extinction by breeding in zoo.

On the whole, zoo has pros and cons. Nowadays many zoos have been changed. Zookeepers have removed those exposed concrete walls and replaced some vegetations and solids from each animal’s original environments. They says that it’s also important to convey  the atmospheres to the visitors. I think this is a good change. Personally breeding only exotic animals is also much better idea because it's not hard for them to acclimate places in zoo.

Animal rights activists are wrong to object to animals being used in experiments - Asahi

I agree with this opinion.
Firstly, I believe that the value of human life is much more important than animals absolutely. When scientists try to develop new medicines or treatment, they use animals to test. It’s necessary.Who wants to be a guinea pig? People only use new things with positive proof that it’s safe.
However, there is no useless lives in the world. We must make good use of surveys when we consume animals as experiments. We shouldn’t forget that we sacrifice them.

Zoo should be banned - Kazuya Ishida

There are many zoos in the world. Each city has each zoo. In fact, I have been a zoo much time and many people go to the zoo to see and touch animals. However, imagine the animals which live in the zoo. Probably, they are caught by the person somewhere. After that, they have to live in the zoo until they die. If I were them, I couldn’t put up with the situation.

There are some opinions, which is both agree and disagree.

Firstly, I’ll talk about the agreement. People could enjoy touching animals. Especially, I think that it is children. The children can know the importance of life. In addition, the zoo works as a research institute to protect animals. In the world, there are many endangered species. For example, it’s a panda. In China, there is Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Thus, the zoo has a part of breeding endangered animals, protecting these animals.

Lastly, it’s about the opposition. As I said in the first paragraph, animals have to live there and be for entertainment. Animals have the right to freedom to live in. In addition, children would misunderstand the animals who live in zoo. That is to say, the human is the top of the environment. They may have thought.
